Christ IS Divine, the Creator and Sustainer!

Thank you for reading the blog post today. We are praying you will be more assured of the Deity of Christ after reading our study. Allow the Holy Spirit to speak a revelation to you today which will help you with your walk with the Lord. Eric

In Matthew 16, Jesus asked His disciples, “Who do man say that I, the Son of Man, am?” Even when He was physically present with them, there was a diversity of answers. Some thought He was John the Baptist, Elijah or one of the prophets. (verse 14).

We find that many perceive Jesus in a variety of ways still today.

According to a Barna survey, “Four of five U.S. adults believe Jesus is real. Seven of ten adults (71%) view Jesus positively.”

“On the other end of the spectrum, 26% are categorized as Jesus skeptics. They agree with at least one of these statements: I am uncertain if Jesus lived on the earth; Jesus is a myth or just a man; Jesus was not God, and there is no way to know if God existed or not. Interestingly, 52% of Americans believe Jesus will return to Earth someday.” (outreachmagazine.com, David Kinnaman, September 3, 2004).

Many around the world have various beliefs also. Some see Him as the Messiah, a great prophet, teacher, a radical social figure of a historical figure. So the question of who people say Jesus is, encompasses a wide range of beliefs and interpretations.

Even many so called, ‘theologians’ disagree concerning Jesus being God and equal with God.

Since one of the most important tenets of our faith is the belief that Jesus is, God come in the flesh, it is an important question for us to delve into and settle.

Scripture, which is absolute truth, will reveal the true identity and the reality of who Jesus is. (John 17:17). John 1:1 reads, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:14 reveals, “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” Jesus is frequently identified in Scripture as ‘the Word of God,’ a title that underscores His divine nature, His role in revealing the Father to humanity and His agency in the Creation.” (Bible Hub Study Bible). ‘Word’ in John 1;1 is translated from the Greek word ‘logos’. Logos in this verse means: the Divine Expression (Thayer’s Greek Lexicon) and as used here conveys two main ideas. The first is : self-revelation. It indicates that God makes Himself known. Jesus as the ‘Word’ is the fullest expression of God’s nature. Secondly, ‘logos’ in this verse means: Divine Power in Action.” (Thayer’s). In the Old Testament, God’s creative power is often described by His spoken word, which we see in Genesis 1 when God spoke the creation into existence.

Looking again at John 1:1-3 though, we read, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.” These verses let us know that Jesus as ‘the Word’ is eternal, not created and was fully divine. He was with the Father from the beginning and was actively took part in the creation. When John introduced Jesus as ‘the Word’ he established that Jesus was God in the flesh!

Hebrews 1:3, 6 and 8a (NIV) reveals the following about the Son, “The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.... 6 And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says, "Let all God's angels worship him." ... 8 But about the Son he says, "Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever.” In verse 3, ‘radiance’ is the reflective brightness of God’s glory. ‘Exact representation’ means an exact copy, has the same character. According to HELPS Word studies, ‘exact representation’ figuratively means an exact impression which also reflects inner character.

The prophet Isaiah prophesied of a ‘son’ being given, coming as the Savior of the world and that He would be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6and 7).

Look at what Jesus said about Himself. John 10:30, “I and My Father are one.” “‘One’ hen in the Greek implies unity of essence or nature, not merely agreement or purpose. (Bible Hub, Study Bible).

Jesus spoke, “Truly, truly - before Abraham was, I am.” The repetition used with the word truly strengthens its meaning and underscores the authority and certainty of the message, Any time you see a word repeated like that in the Scripture, it means something important is being said and you should pay attention. ‘I am’ is the divine name revealed to Moses by God. With this statement, Jesus claimed his pre—existence and identifies Himself with Yahweh. (John 8:58).

When the angel informed Joseph he was to marry Mary, the angel proclaimed the baby she was carrying was from the Holy Spirit and that his name was to be Immanuel, which means, God with us. (Matthew 1:20).

We see when Philip asked Jesus to show them the Father, Jesus responded by saying, “Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.” (John 14:9).

Paul, by revelation of the Holy Spirit also declares that Jesus is God. Colossians 1:15a, “He is the image of the invisible God…” Then Paul also stated in Colossians 2:9, “For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily,” Yes, God came in the flesh, in the person of His Son, Jesus.

The Scripture also clearly expresses that Jesus is the Creator. John 1:2 and 3 reads, “He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.” Colossians 1:15 and16 reveals, “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities--all things were created through him and for him.”

Since we know that Jesus is the Creator of everything, Revelation 4:11 refers to Him and also establishes His oneness with God, “Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created."

Isn’t it amazing to see how many times the Scripture speaks to the question of Jesus’ deity? There is no room for doubt!

As the Son of God, we learn that Jesus is also our Sustainer. Reading Hebrews 1:3a and b (CSB) again, we will focus on 3b which reveals, “The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact expression of his nature, sustaining all things by his powerful word…” ‘Sustaining’ or upholds in the NIV means to carry, bear, preserve or sustain. God’s sustaining power is comprehensive, affecting every part of a person’s life. It implies He continuously supports and makes provision for us. Psalm 54:4 also reveals Jesus as our sustainer, (NIV), “Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me.”

Colossians 1:17 reads, “And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. He holds all things together! If God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit were taken out of the equation of our world - nothing would be, nor would it continue to exist!

Jesus is definitely more than a prophet or good teacher.

Jesus is God, Our Creator and Sustainer!

Seeing Jesus as a prophet or a great teacher is not enough. The Spirit of God gave the following word to Azariah to speak to Asa and this word is as valid for us today as it was for him. 2 Chronicles 15:2b, “The Lord is with you while you are with him! Whenever you seek him, you will find him.” There is only one way to the reconciled relationship with the Father that He desires and we need. Accepting the sacrifice Jesus made for you is that way. It’s very personal and it will bring changes into your life.

When you accept Jesus as Lord, you are transferred from the kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of light; from the kingdom of death to the Kingdom of life. Your life will no longer be controlled by chaos, but you will have the peace of God that passes all understanding. Your circumstances may not change but a deep abiding peace will remain in you. You establish a personal relationship with God, the Creator and the One who sustains and He will uphold and support you.

My wife was 13 years old when she accepted Jesus as her Savior. She had dealt with personal rejection for a long time, but the night she responded and confessed Jesus as Lord, she experienced a peace she had never known before. She discovered a personal reality of God! A short time later, her sister came to her and said, “You’re different.”

In truth, relationship with the Messiah, God, the Creator and the One who sustains you - changes you!

One more vital proof that Jesus is God is found in Acts 1:3 (NKJV), “to whom He also presented Himself alive after His suffering (death on the cross), by many infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days…” Jesus rose from the dead! Death could not keep Him! He nor His body is any longer in the grave! He is seated at the right hand of Father God, where He makes intercession for us! Hallelujah!

He is Divine! He is God!

By the sacrifice of Jesus, we are saved from sin and death! Romans 10: 9,10 and 13, “because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. ... 13 For "everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

If you have never realized or acknowledged that Jesus is more than a good man, a prophet or a good teacher - today is your day to change your life forever! When we confess our sin and ask - He forgives and comes in!

He loves you, is waiting for you and desires to call you His beloved child.

Special Note: For those of you who have made that most important decision and find yourself in the midst of severe persecution - I encourage you today - He will never leave nor forsake you.
