For This Purpose! (Part 2)
Thank you so much for coming to read the blog post today. We pray that God will reveal Himself, His purposes and how you can discover His plans for you as you read His Word today. Eric
Last week, on 2-11-2026, we posted Part 1 of our teaching concerning God's purposes. If you have not had a chance to read it, I recommend you take a few minutes to read it when you can. We began with the premise that most people, at times, wonder what their purpose is while they are here on the earth.
We shared that God is the Creator of all things, including mankind and that were created for His purpose. Psalm 139:14-16 reads, "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. 15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. 16 Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be." We stated that the Hebrew word for 'ordained' yatsar means established (fashioned) in the divine purpose.
We learned that God's purpose and will is for perfect fellowship and unity with Himself, humanity and His creation. We established that God's will brings the fulfillment of His purpose. Then, we shared a number of actions believers should do to fulfill God's purpose for them.
We know from Scripture that God had a plan and purpose for us even before the world began. 2 Timothy 1:9 reveals, "He has saved us and called us to a holy life--not because of anything we have done (works) but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time." "Salvation is entirely a matter of God's purpose and grace, apart from human works." (Textual notes NSFLB). 'Called' kaleo as used in this verse, means: to invite or summon and is especially used of God's call to participation in the blessings of the kingdom. 'Purpose' means a "setting forth and suggests a deliberate plan, an intention or a design ("God's eternal purposes relating to salvation which demonstrates God's abiding faithfulness as He awaits the consummation of His great plan for the church") (Textual notes NSFLB), which is the restoration of the perfect unity which He desires.
Jeremiah 1:4 and 5 reveals, "The word of the LORD came to me, saying, 5 "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations." "Jeremiah was set apart before birth and called to tear down and build up as a prophet to the nations. God has a plan for each of His people to operate with similar kingdom principles: 1.) Every believer is born-again into a priestly role (1 Peter 2:5-9) and also set apart and empowered to declare truth to those who are far from God. This prophetic message will be used to tear down strongholds and arguments against God's ways. (2 Corinthians 10:4,5); 2.) To build up others to discover their intended redemptive purpose. (Ephesians 2:10; Jeremiah 29:11). Believers are not called to rejoice over impending judgment but to embrace compassionate love for those who need to hear God's offer of salvation from destruction. (Romans 5:8).” (Bible Hub Study Bible).
Each of us has a purpose foreordained by God. Ephesians 1:11 reveals, "In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will." 'Chosen' means: as God's own; private possession (Thayer's Greek Lexicon). You and I were chosen as God's own! We have a secure place in God's redemptive purpose! God has a 'plan' (His redemptive purpose). "God is sovereign and actively involved in the unfolding of history and the lives of believers. Nothing is outside of God's control or beyond His ability to use for His purpose! The phrase 'in conformity with the purpose of His will' conveys that "God's will is not arbitrary but is based on His perfect wisdom and understanding." (Bible Hub Study Bible). It might not hurt to read this paragraph again! What a wonderful revelation from the Word of God!
You see, even though we as humans are a 'work in progress,' our having accepted the gift of salvation, partially fulfills His purpose for creating us! What an astounding truth! Then, because we are a 'work in progress' it is comforting to know that He who has begun a good work in us, will complete it until the day of Christ Jesus. (Philippians 1:6).
As humans, we tend to make our own plans, however, the Lord establishes our steps (Proverbs 16:9, Psalm 37:23). God is involved in the day-to-day decisions and directions of a person's life (your live and my life). Psalm 37:24 teaches us that, as the Lord orders our steps, when we stumble or fall we will not be overwhelmed, for the Lord is holding our hand. Thank You Lord!
Since we have been called according to His purpose, we must be willing to surrender to His purpose. Matthew 16:24b reveals how we 'surrender' to His purpose! "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow me." "'Denying' oneself involves a conscious decision to set aside personal desires, ambitions and comforts in favor of God's will. It requires an attitude of humility and submission to God's directives and plans." (Bible Hub Study Bible) If we want to know why God created us and put us on the planet, we must make spiritual values a priority over worldly ones. "To 'take up our cross' signifies a willingness to endure hardship and persecution and to embrace the challenges and sacrifices that come as a result of living a life devoted to God." (Bible Hub Study Bible).
Our greatest example of one who totally fulfilled His purpose for being on the earth was Jesus Christ. How did He do it? Even though Jesus knew what His purpose was before He came, our question must be: "How did Jesus accomplish fulfilling that purpose, as a man?"
We know Jesus faced severe hardships and opposition when He came to earth as a human. Yet, we read His words such as, "I do always those things that please Him." "Not my will but Thine be done." "I do nothing of My own initiative..." I came not to do my own will but the will of Him who sent me."
How did He know what to do in every situation He faced?
First, the man Jesus was thoroughly and intimately knowledgeable of the Word of God. When He was in the wilderness facing the temptations of the devil, His every response was, "It is written," or "The Scriptures say..."
Secondly, He was 'full of the Holy Spirit' following His water baptism and then, 'full of the power of the Spirit' after He left the wilderness, where He was tempted by the devil. (Luke 4:1, 14). 'Power' dunamis is the miracle working power of God.
Thirdly, Jesus prayed constantly. He not only took His petitions to the Father, He listened and received His orders or instructions from the Father. John 12:49 (CEV) reads, " I don't speak on my own. I say only what the Father who sent me has told me to say."
Knowing the Word of God, being filled with the power of the Holy Spirit and being in constant communication with the Father is what enabled Jesus, the man, to accomplish His purpose here on earth.
Let me say it again! Knowing the Word of God, being filled with the power of the Holy Spirit and being in constant communication with the Father is what will enable us to fulfill the purpose for which the Lord created us!
When you accept the sacrifice Jesus Christ made for the forgiveness of your sins. The Father sends the Holy Spirit to live inside you. (Romans 8:9). The Holy Spirit guides, convicts, teaches, helps, comforts, reveals truth, strengthens and empowers us.
These things which were given to the man, Jesus, by the Father, are the same things that have been given to us, by the Father, to enable us to accomplish His purpose for us.
When you become a believer, the Holy Spirit will come to live inside you. To receive His power such as what happened to Jesus in the wilderness and the disciples on the day of Pentecost, "all you need to do is ask for it." (Luke 11:13).
When you know the Word of God, have the Holy Spirit and the power of the Holy Spirit in you and pray without ceasing - the Lord will direct you in what He wants you to do.
For those believers who desire to know His will in regards to what career He has for you to do, I encourage you to examine your heart, your giftings and your desires. Do you have a huge heart of compassion? Do you love children? Have you been gifted with musical abilities? Or, do you have a gift or love for mathematics? Seek God concerning it. Ask Him what His desire for you is, then listen for His response. Also, realize that He opens and closes doors, according to His purposes.
We have a niece who has just begun working as a nurse in her 'dream' job - in obstetrics.
My wife, from the time she was in Junior High School desired to be a teacher. Although her major was Health and Physical Education, the Lord later, gave her a heart to work with special education students, which she did for approximately 29 years. She also felt the Lord was going to call her to the mission field. The Lord led her to marry me (a pastor) and then, He directed us to 'our' mission field in a state in the heartland of the United States.
Seek God in prayer! Seek His wisdom! Seek His direction!
Determine to follow Jesus' example. Listen when you pray, be obedient to His word and to what He speaks to you. Be willing to deny self and put His will, His plan, and His purposes first in your life!
The blessings He has planned for you will far surpass anything you would receive if you followed your own desires, purposes or plans!
Ephesians 3:20 and 21 (AMP), reads, "Now to Him who is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly more than all that we dare ask or think [infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes, or dreams], according to His power that is at work within us, 21 to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations forever and ever. Amen."
